The Programming Assistant implements a wide array of programming for residents within our vibrant Independent Living community. We are seeking a friendly, creative and outgoing person that is able to work independently. Must have excellent communication skills, detail oriented, professional demeanor and leadership abilities. Must be a team player and have excellent customer service skills. Some experience working with seniors preferred. Completes paperwork as required and good computer skills needed.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Resident Care – Programs

  • Assists in the development and implementation of an innovative daily program for residents
  • Assists with outings and accompanies residents as needed
  • Supports, encourages and directs independent activity pursuits, both individually and in small groups
  • Assist the residents with the creation of our newsletter
  • Participate in resident committee
  • Ensure common rooms, tables and chairs are set up properly and supplies are staged in advance of various resident programs
  • Ensure all common areas of independent living are maintained in neat order
  • Maintain information on closed circuit TV
  • Maintain files and computer records, and other types of information
  • Maintain accurate calendars
  • Respond to internal and external requests for information and materials accurately and timely
  • Make and distribute event flyers
  • Participate in meetings and development training as required

Resident Care General

  • Demonstrates knowledge about residents in regard to background, participation needs, physical abilities, interests, cognitive capacity and attention span capability
  • Communicates any changes in the resident’s condition or behavior pattern to Programming Director 

Organization / Prioritization

  • Follows daily work schedules as directed and identifies and acts on non-scheduled tasks
  • Shows a consistent ability to coordinate multiple tasks
  • Maintains a positive attitude when working under pressure
  • Effectively handles difficult resident behaviors
  • Reacts calmly and effectively in emergency situations

Job Requirements

 • Must have a high school diploma, bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and knowledge of aging and disability issues.

  • Displays computer proficiency with working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding residents, staff, and the community
  • Shows an ability to relate to and perform job functions for the elderly in a positive and efficient manner
  • Shows a consistent ability to coordinate multiple tasks, demonstrates a positive attitude, and works well under pressure
  • Possesses excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to relate in a positive and professional way to a diverse resident and associate population
  • Shows familiarity and experience using a wide variety of equipment related to the recreational programs of elders and the disabled, including, but not limited to, craft supplies, DVD, sound system, stereo, stove, and food preparation equipment

Schedule Full Time Position - Monday thru Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm or 9:00 am – 5:00 pm; occasional nights, weekends and holidays
