The Development Accountant and Analyst manages all aspects of the accounting, tracking, reporting and analysis of development related activities for the company.  This role works closely with the Development Team, including the Chief Development Officer, to provide project information and to ensure timely and accurate funding of projects.  The role also interfaces with our debt and capital partners to provide support in order to obtain funding requests.   

Principle Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Principal owner of all cost information related to development projects
  • Project reporting and tracking of costs for pursuit and active development projects (20+ projects across multiple entities)
  • Project cost analysis, forecasts, monitoring of budget to actual, identifying cash flow issues and assistance with capital call need forecasts
  • Compiling capital and debt call packages and submitting for payment
  • Monitoring cash balances and releasing payments, managing payment timelines as necessary to keep projects on track
  • Obtaining documentation required for funding (insurance certs, internal certs, etc.)
  • Point person for Development Department providing timely and accurate reporting on projects and assisting with ad hoc requests and status updates on payments
  • Reconciling all development entity accounts (PUD, cash, equity, debt)
  • Coding and arrangement of approval on all development invoices
  • Compliance with debt and equity terms (ex: Lender approvals needed on change orders, ensuring all proceeds properly applied)
  • Monitoring of escrow and retainage accounts
  • Development and marketing fee invoicing
  • Arrangement of immediate payments as needed (checks for permits, etc.)
  • Monitoring and timely write-off of “dead deal” costs
  • Placing assets into service as projects are completed
  • Point person to transition projects to Community Accounting once projects are complete and opened

 

 

Job Requirements

Education/Background:

  • BS or BA degree in accounting, finance or business from accredited college or university
  • GAAP accounting experience
  • Experience with understanding entity organization structures
  • Microsoft Excel proficiency
  • Ability to become proficient in accounting software (Yardi)
  • Ability to multitask across various projects and manage to deadlines
