The Regional Community Controller is responsible for all areas of day to day accounting and reporting for Benchmark Communities as well as reviewing month-end close related tasks for a designated set of communities that provide skilled nursing or long-term acute care.  The position is also responsible for the management and mentoring of its community accountants.  The role serves as a Business Partner for any financial related needs of the communities and home office departments, including the Regional Director of Operations for CCRC and New Starts, including its VPs and SVPs. Specific focus of this role is with the communities where there is 3rd party/Medicare A, Advantage & Medicare B billing and reimbursement as a subject matter expert in the community accounting team.

As the primary financial resource, the Regional Community Controller must provide exemplary customer service both internally and externally. In addition to the day to day accounting and reporting, this role is responsible for developing trusted business partner relationships with the Executive Director and DBA at the Communities.

            The responsibilities also include the timely preparation of monthly financial packages, analyzing business performance of the communities and by investor portfolio, summarizing financial data for executive decisions and offering knowledgeable insight to personnel within and outside of Finance and Accounting. In addition, this role will participate departmental projects and initiatives related to enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of existing processes and implementing new processes to mitigate risks.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage community accounting staff to complete an accounting and operational review of designated communities during a 5-day closing cycle, including pre-close and post-close activities, being hands on as needed.
  • Review monthly and quarterly reconciliations and deliverables including providing month and QTD financial results and supporting schedules to FP&A/Analytics team, Community Controller and VP of Accounting & Finance.
  • Review and prepare discussion of budget to actual results in the month/year end financial reporting package
  • Provide financial support throughout the month and handle all day to day accounting needs of direct staff who are responsible for providing analysis and evaluation of monthly financial results on a monthly call with each community
  • Ensure training and development of community accounting staff including coaching, training and meeting team deadlines
  • Provide ad hoc financial support throughout the month to home office departments and communities when requested
  • Establish, document and maintain proper accounting controls, including the timely reconciliation and follow up of balance sheet and related accounts. Ensure that Financial Internal Controls are operating as designed
  • Recommend, develop and implement policies and procedures for areas of responsibility to gain efficiencies in the close process
  • Provide leadership in Community Accounting to promote collaboration, continuous improvement, and teamwork within Accounting, Finance and across the organization.
  • During a time of implementing and adopting new systems, actively participate in departmental projects and initiatives related to enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of existing processes and implementing new processes to mitigate risks

 

 

Job Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • BS degree in accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant, preferred but not required
  • 7+ years relevant financial, accounting and managerial experience
  • Knowledge of revenue cycle and 3rd party billing in Healthcare, Senior Living or Post-Acute care
  • Excellent skills with MS Excel, MS Outlook, and related application tools
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, maintains confidential information
  • Experience in BI Business Intelligence tools and/or budgeting/forecast system such as Adaptive Analtics

 SKILLS

  • Solid understanding of healthcare 3rd party billing and related accounting
  • Skilled Nursing Facility and/or Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) Experience
