The Senior Director of Business Development provides senior leadership over the External Business Development (EDB) group and will work with all Benchmark communities to lead various activities and programs, to maximize revenue and occupancy opportunity primarily through professional referral sources.


  • Effectively coach External Business Development team to meet and exceed goals and raise their proficiency in all key areas.
  • Assures that occupancy and sales productivity goals are consistently met across all regions.
  • Meets regularly with sales and EBD teams to review sales and marketing activity and skills assessment.
  • Work with Marketing on developing comprehensive programs that provide educational opportunity for the professional community and helps drive referrals as well as creates thought leadership for BSL within the community
  • Creates and maintains a comprehensive tracking system to track referrals and conversions to move-ins
  • Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining a 90-day Marketing Action Plan for each community within the cluster, in conjunction with the EBD, DCRs, Executive Director (ED), and the Regional Sales Director.
  • Educate the community at large about Benchmark’s unique approach to senior living.
  • Implements, monitors, and promotes resident referral programs to generate new referrals.
  • Analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of the region against competitors.
  • Demonstrates innovative, entrepreneurial thinking in anticipation or response to competitive trends and business development opportunities.
  • Tracks and responds to market trends in a positive and proactive manner.
  • Provides detailed and accurate periodic sales and marketing productivity reports.
  • Ensures all sales data and activity is recorded accurately and updated consistently in the CRM.


Job Requirements


  • 3-5 years experience in sales and marketing, preferably in senior housing
  • Previous experience working with aging adults and/or persons with disabilities is highly desirable.
  • Computer proficiency with working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Mastery of the CRM with the ability to teach and guide others on its use.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and the ability to relate in a positive and professional way to a diverse resident and associate population.
